Keynes a volný obchod

V roce 1919 byl John Maynard Keynes z volného obchodu nadšený:

What an extraordinary episode in the economic progress of man that age was which came to an end in August 1914! ... The inhabitant of London could order by telephone, sipping his morning tea in bed, the various products of the whole earth, in such quantity as he might see fit, and reasonably expect their early delivery upon his doorstep.

V roce 1933 ale bylo vše jinak:

I sympathize, therefore, with those who would minimize, rather than with those who would maximize, economic entanglement among nations. Ideas, knowledge, science, hospitality, travel - these are the things which should of their nature be international. But let goods be homespun whenever it is reasonably and conveniently possible, and, above all, let finance be primarily national.

Velká hospodářská krize Keynese silně ovlivnila. Naštěstí dnes žijeme ve světě, kde většina zemí Keynesovu změnu názoru nevyslyšela.
